Human Side of Project Management

I remember the time I first started out as a Project Manager – I was struggling with project management. It wasn’t because of the projects I was doing. The nature of them wasn’t new to me. It wasn’t because of the people involved. I was familiar with them even before I became a Project Manager. It was particularly when I tried to communicate with the team members, the stakeholders, the bosses, who had a direct impact on the project – this was when I struggled. I was struggling to make them see my point of view, keep them focused on the project objectives, get things done with them. Sound familiar to you? Then you may want to keep on reading!
Project Management is more than just planning, tracking timeline, controlling budget, managing scope or whatever else PMBOK taught you. You can excel at all these areas and still fail to be a good project manager.
How do you really succeed as a Project Manager? It doesn’t matter if you’re a junior PM, a senior PM, have completed small or large scale projects or even delivered a few or hundred projects – the Human Side of Project Management is a skill set you need to master if you’re going to succeed as a great Project Manager.
Most Project Management trainings don’t teach you about dealing with the human side. Does the Human Side sound alien to you? That’s because what you learned was writing skills, change management, risk management, planning and scheduling. Not people skills! If you haven’t been successful so far or just need more skills to make you even better, then, The Human Side of Project Management is the program for you!

In fact, even with one of the top 10 Project Management knowledge areas being Project Communications, that just doesn’t cut it. Why? Because you are only guided on things like coming up with a Communications Plan and managing the communications based on the plan. It’s about a plan, not about PEOPLE! It doesn’t teach you how to communicate with others. These PM trainings are missing out the essential techniques that transform your communication with all the different types of personalities you work with, so you can be successful in the various projects you undertake – You MUST learn these skills and be able to select the right skills to use for specific communication situations.
You can stay where you are and get what you already have in your career or you can learn and master these skills now and start succeeding in your career.

These skills, presented to you in this 4-week course, are the ones you need to be an extremely successful Project Manager. It’s up to you to learn and practice them. Once you do, you’ve set yourself up for constant success in whatever projects you undertake and whoever you work with!
